Minding my own business on Figueroa on Wednesday I was trying to think of a way to help YORK BLVD. ring in holidays when I was rear-ended in front of CVS. The Middle Eastern/Central Asian guy in the white four-door didn’t bother waiting to see if everybody was okay but I’m fine with that…karma has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass and all I was left with was a slightly sore neck. Even better, the impact must have knocked something loose in my grey matter. After working out the details with my partner here, YORK BLVD. is pleased to announce our first of many reader submission contests! So, on to the nuts and bolts…Know a home in your neighborhood with great Christmas lights? I’m talking about pagan bring-back-the-sun-from-the-winter-solstice, bring the second reactor online, SPF 45 bright lights that put Clark Griswold to shame. Maybe your offended at your neighbor’s in-your-face attempt to make a holiday that is clearly celebrating the crucifixion of Santa (I think?) about a baby in a barn. Or maybe you know someone who has simply plugged in their one strand of half burnt out lights that’s been up all year. Whatever the scenario, send in a digital photo with the home’s address and a brief comment. We’ll pour over them and post some of the best, worst, and funniest on the site by Christmas. Our only guidelines are as follows:

  1. Lights need to be from the general area of Northeast Los Angeles. We can be pretty flexible as to the exact boundaries this constitutes, but if you send us a Brentwood Mansion, you might be exposing yourself to Westside ridicule.
  2. Include a caption describing the location and the lights themselves.
  3. Make sure you give us a valid email address so we know how to notify you when your photos are published.
  4. All photos should be submitted to contact@yorkblvd.com

The winners will receive their choice of Yorkblvd.com sticker. We’ll even pay for the postage. Both of these were spotted on Yosemite last night:

Maybe the Grinch stole the rest. You know…the ones with any color.
One string of white?

Don’t stare directly into it.
