Moving On…

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. – The Buddha

Things have been a bit negative in the YorkBlvd newsroom lately, so we thought it would be a good idea to spread a little Northeast goodwill to some local businesses who have treated us right lately.

  • Eagle Auto Repair has been awesome to us and our cars.  Luis and his father have been honest, helpful, and reassuring with my old Altima that was slowly disintegrating.  He has never tried to upsell me on unnecessary work and they’ll even drive you home if you don’t have a ride.  Lastly, how can you not like a mechanic who works on vintage bicycles as a hobby?
  • Highland Car Wash – Sure it’s probably one of the least aesthetically pleasing car washes around.  You can’t watch your car go through the machine, there are no snacks, and the seating is pretty spartan, but the price is right (especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).  The capper is that on my last visit, they found a wallet in my car that I though I had lost months ago.  They could have pocketed the wallet and I would have never known it.  Instead, it was placed on my seat, full of the same ammount of cash I thought I had lost in January.
  • They’re not really a business, but I have to give credit to the Office of Community Beautification for their work in the neighborhood this week.  My neck of Highland Park was pretty tagged up after the weekend.  I reported the graffiti online on Sunday, and by Tuesday our neighborhood was pristine.

With the openings of the Eagle Rock Brewery and Good Girl Dinette just around the corner, we’re looking forward to a few more positive stories in the coming weeks.
